The X-factor of the Titans Defense
The Titans signed CB Sean Murphy-Bunting to a one-year, $6 million deal during free agency this spring. Murphy-Bunting was a starter on the Bucs’ 2020 Super Bowl Champions roster and spent four years in Western Florida. The Ladder’s time in Tampa Bay ended after a plethora of injuries and losing his starting job. Now with the Titans, SMB looks to revive his career, and once again contribute to a great defense…..
Murphy-Bunting has looked great so far in camp, as DC Shane Bowen has used him in a ton of different ways. SMB has played outside corner for most of training camp but has also lined up as a slot corner. The 26-year-old has stated that he would like to play outside more than in the slot, but his versatility will be useful for the Titans’ defense. Ten had a very young secondary last year, excluding Amani Hooker and Kevin Byard. It looks like SMB has taken on the role of mentoring and being a leader to the young guys, especially second-year corner Roger McCreary. The young and inexperienced Titans’ corner room has needed a veteran leader for a while now, and they have finally gotten one in SMB….
If Murphy-Bunting can return to 2020 SMB, this Titans’ defense will be lethal to any opposing offense. In today’s NFL, you must have an above-average secondary to compete and win games. Ten hasn’t really had that in a couple of years, and SMB could be the difference maker. Though he isn’t a household name, Sean Murphy-Bunting will be the X-Factor of a Titans’ defense that hopes to wreck havoc in the AFC…
